Vintage Argyle Victorian Open Bowl Teacup and Saucer

Fine bone china made in England ~ Argyle.

• Very pretty open Victorian style tea cup with pale blue and gilt bouquet decoration in cup wall
• Rich heavy gilding to rim base plate and handle.
• 4 inch diameter scallop shell rim 2.25 inch tall rim, 2-3/8th-inch at handle pedestal foot with further scalloping.
• 5.5 inch diameter saucer scallop gilt rims.
• Both pieces marked bone china Argyle made in England

We researched this cup and saucer extensively and have establish Argyle is the brand. We cannot find any manufacturer having used the brand Argyle during the manufacturing period however it is likely associated with the Staffordshire Argyle Rd works operated by William Hulme up to 1954 after which it was operated by Gem pottery Ltd, decorators of blanks made in other factories. Many manufacturers have produced Argyle pattern china, but nothing matching this set.
