Pale blue and white antique Joseph Clementson china Pekin Sketches large platter c1839-1864
- Very fine English Staffordshire grit Ironstone china serving plate
- Pekin Sketches from a series of Asiatic Scene romanticised Chinese river scenes in pale blue and white china transfer design with floral scroll borders
- Joseph Clementson had apprenticed with J & W Ridgway before setting up in business with Jonah Read in 1832
- 17.5-inch by 15-inch large serving platter
- Antique patina glaze ware to platter surface and gadrooned rims
- Date range 1839-1864 Hanley Staffordshire
- In 1851 the company exhibited Asiatic Sketches at the Great Exhibition
- Printed cartouche back stamp with 'Pekin Sketches', pagoda and initials JC
- This is a very nice piece of increasingly rare antique pale blue and white ironstone china with all the evidence of almost 200 years use.
- We are also listing four dinner plates. We are also listing two dessert plates in 18th Century shape which match this large platter.
- Condition note 4 small anterior rim chips all antique as shown, probably from wall hanging clasps.
