Portland Basket J W R antique china plate
J W R stamped on the back of this wonderful antique dinner plate stands for John & William Ridgway, the two sons of Job Ridgway and an important family name in the history of English china.
Portland Basket, based on the Portland Vase design of Spode is one of their most collectable china pattern designs. this antique plate was manufactured between 1814 and 1830 and is a blue and white transfer design which has been hand coloured by the decorators.
It is a very rare piece of antique English china and very few pieces come to the open market. You will find an example in the V&A collection.
