Swinnertons pottery was made over a long period of production starting at the Vulcan works as early as 1885 in Burton Place, Hanley, Stoke on Trent. By 1911 the business was Limited and had moved to larger premises in Slippery Lane.
These Olde Alton Ware, a sub brand of Swinnerton's Pottery Blue Pagoda pattern pieces probably were made at the Washington pottery acquired in 1917 and date from the mid 1930's The floral borders with segmented rich cobalt blue transfer decoration make them stand apart from blue willow designs from the same period, and a great choice for lovers of blue and white china.
