George Jones remains one of my favourite china manufacturers from the late 19th Century. Although better known for Majolica work, I just love the floral designs they were producing on fine bone china in the final quarter of The great Victorian period of the English potteries. Briar pattern is a fine example of this elegant English style being produced by the Bridge Works during 1880 - 1900
Trained by Minton, George Jones would learn the business of china sales working for Wedgwood, and would become both a successful pottery merchant and manufacturer. He was ideally placed to see which designs were commercially successful and to produce George Jones & Sons versions which would sell across the British Empire.
